Competition Guidelines
Submission
- Filmmakers may submit as many AI made films as they like in the categories fiction, documentary, experimental and music video. These categories may be changed by the festival team.
- Filmmakers may submit their films by uploading them to their account at IndeeHub.studio.
- Submitting films is free of charge.
- The maximum length per film is 120 minutes.
- Filmmakers have to guarantee that they own all rights to their films and take responsibility for any copyright claims.
Pre-Selection
- The festival’s programme committee will pre-select the films that may enter the competition.
- If not enough films have been submitted to a category, the programme committee may close the category and place accepted films in a different category.
Voting
- The audience decides about the awards of each category by an online vote.
- Everyone with an IndeeHub account can watch the pre-selected films and vote for them. The account is free of charge.
- Everyone who has watched at least 30% of a film may vote for it by giving 1 to 10 stars to it, 10 being the best rating, 1 the worst.
- Category winners are ranked by Bayesian average, a method that fairly balances a film's average rating against how many people rated it. Broad support matters and a few perfect scores can't leapfrog a widely loved film.
- The three films with the highest ratings in each category win the prize money (see “Tipping & Payout” for details).
- The winning films will be screened at the award show in Málaga. They will also be highlighted on the festival’s website.
Tipping & Payout
- Users may tip every film they like by sending fractions of bitcoins (so called satoshis) via the Bitcoin Lightning Network. The minimum amount per tip is 21 satoshis. The maximum amount is 21 million bitcoins.
- 50% of the tipped satoshis goes to the film’s wallet, 50% goes into a prize pool for the category of that film. The pooled prize money is kept in a secure escrow account.
- The winner of a category wins 30% of the pooled prize money of that category, the film with the second highest rating wins 20%, the film with the third highest rating wins 10%.
- 21% of the total prize money goes to the three top supporters (see “Top Supporters Competition”), 10% goes to IndeeHub, 9% goes to Bitfilm.
- In addition to the awards of the four categories, the “Golden Satoshi” is given to the film with the highest number of tipped Satoshis throughout all categories. There is no money prize for this award, which rewards the sales skills of a filmmaker more than the quality of the film.
Top Supporters Competition
- Every participant who tips a film takes part in a competition. The user with the highest amount of tips and the highest total viewing time wins.
- 21% of the total prize money goes to the three top supporters. The most active user receives 12% of the prize money. The second most active user receives 6%, the third most active user receives 3%.
Post-Festival
- The winning films remain available on IndeeHub as paid streaming. Each filmmaker sets their own price.
- Revenue split per view: filmmaker 60%, IndeeHub 30%, Bitfilm 10%.
- Everyone who has voted during the festival may watch the winning films for free.
